You can add your step in the main workflow after calling the time dependent sub workflow, but pay attention that the sub workflow (12000006) in which the approval is made already has send mail activities after the decision step (node 48) for approval / auto-approval / rejection. maybe you can use the standard ones? anyhow you can replace any of those with your mail activity.
