Search strategy has no relation with extension of material for storage type, extension of material for storage type help with fix bin strartegy and replenishment process.
During good receipt if your put away strategy is other then fixed bin then without extending the material for storage type also it should search the bins from the storage type which is defined in storage type search sequence
